Our   first preliminary task

was to create a front cover and a contents page for Haydon school's magazine.

The first part of our challenge was to get in to small groups and take photo's that would be appropriate and suitable for a School magazine.

We thought of ideas for pictures that included new buildings of Haydon, but then we thought when reading a Haydon magazine, we want the reader to see students at Haydon, who look to be having a good time in their environment here.
So we got a group of  boys and a girl sitting comfortably and laughing, this connotes happiness and security to new students, we thought this could show the readers that coming to Haydon you'll make friends and have fun as well as learning new things everyday.
The group are wearing smart formal clothing, this conveys a sense of class and sophistication, showing readers if they were to come to Haydon that is what the message they will send to other people. The group are also from different backgrounds, which conveys a sense of cultural diversity.

After taking the pictures we had to choose two pictures out of them and choose one for the front cover and one for the contents page. I chose the group one and started editing it on Photoshop. I had to think of a colour scheme that would describe Haydon.I chose gold, because  gold conveys power, intimidation and class.  It also gives off a rich look and connotes royalty.

The typography of the Masthead is in italics and looks quite elegant. I slanted the masthead in to an arch. The Buzz words and Masthead are in white as it stands out from the dark background, as it is quite contrasting. I chose white because white symbolises New beginnings and connotes a sense of purity. I changed the typography for the buzz words and made it bold and in different sizes so it attracts attention.

For the contents page i chose a picture of two girls laughing, this conveys a sense of "friendliness and warmth" as it shows they are having fun. We chose to make it natural and not pose. The Masthead is again slanted in to an arch but this time it is not in Italics. The text is in the same writing as the masthead. I chose not to make it in Italics as i didn't want it to look unreadable for people. In the background there is a small building with a vivid blue door, Blue connotes serenity and calmness and a sense of peace. This could very well mean that if you come to haydon you'll get a sense of peace and calmness.
